Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank Limited, in collaboration with the Sarwodaya has
provided financial literacy training to visually impaired individuals residing
in various parts of Kathmandu on Saturday.
Sushil Paudel, Head of Branding and CSR
Department of the bank, delivered training on topics such as the importance of
saving, personal and family budgeting, financial discipline, financial goals,
future investment opportunities, digital transactions, and digital fraud
prevention.
More than 40 visually impaired individuals
participated in the program.
Speaking at the conclusion of the financial
literacy program, Krishna Khatri Aviral, a visually impaired participant,
shared that due to a lack of timely financial literacy, he had not conducted
banking transactions. He expressed that he had to entrust his earned and saved
money to friends and could not be fully assured of the safety of his funds.
However, now that visually impaired individuals can open bank accounts and
carry out transactions like anyone else, he stated that he would conduct all
his financial dealings through the bank going forward.
Another visually impaired participant, Bikram
Pathariya, expressed that the program had given him hope that small savings
could lead to significant achievements in the future.
Speaking at the same event, Saugat Wagle from
the Sarvodaya Project thanked Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank for providing visually
impaired individuals with mobile banking, ATM card, and other services equal to
those received by sighted individuals. Wagley, who is also visually impaired,
mentioned that he personally uses banking services safely, just like everyone
else.
Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank has introduced the Swabhiman Bachat Khata targeting the
visually impaired individuals. According to the bank, visually impaired
individuals who open this account can access services such as mobile banking
and ATM cards like any other customer.
The
bank has stated that no additional documents or guarantors are required solely
due to visual impairment to open the account. Furthermore, the terms and
conditions related to account operation are also made available in Braille
script.
